I am sure that a discerning mind, would ask the question, IS A CV THE SAME OR DIFFERENT FROM RESUME?
Is a cv different from a resume? So, what is a resume and what are the differences between a Curriculum Vitae and a Resume?
WHAT IS A RESUME?
A resume is a compact and concise document with BASIC highlights about the owner. It is usually on one or two pages. It is a more adaptive and customizable document that can be changed for different job positions. In short, it is an abridged document and may not necessarily be arranged in chronological order.
KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A CV AND A RESUME
I am making this differentiation so that when applying for jobs abroad or in some multinational organizations when you are sure of the origin of the entity it may help you understand their orientation and what is preferred.

| PURPOSE | CV is used in UK, New Zealand, Ireland, and Europe, most countries in African and a blend of both resume and CVs in some. Majorly for job purposes and also for academic, grants or research oriented positions. CV is used in Germany for above-listed purposes and it called Lebenslauf. | In the USA, Canada resume is the preferred application document but for academic and research oriented position and jobs abroad they use CV |
| LAYOUT | CV follows a chronological order in most cases and it is static in nature | Highly flexible and allows for individuals style for adaptive purposes |
Please note, however, that in countries like Australia, South Africa, and Indian CV and resume are used interchangeably and resume is preferred when applying for private sector jobs while in the civil service you need a CV.
